BRISBANE February 7 AAP – A combination of factors could see the find of Brisbane’s summer racing, No Problem, miss the feature winter carnival two-year-old races.
No Problem is favourite to make it three wins in a row when he tackles the Gold QTIS Hcp (1200m) for two-year-olds at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Trainer Len Treloar said provided No Problem came through the run in good shape he would have one final run for this campaign over 1300m at Eagle Farm on February 22.
But from there the only definite things for No Problem are an operation to be gelded and a spell.
“He was bought as a racehorse not as a stallion. I have always said he would be a very good three year old at distances around 1600,” Treloar said.
“I think to give him his best chance would be to geld him so that is what will happen.”
As for the winter carnival Treloar is in two minds about No Problem even taking part.
“Michael Cahill (jockey) told me he got through wet tracks but he doesn’t really like them,” he said.
“It is often wet in Brisbane during the winter and it might be wiser to wait for his three-year-old days.
“But if after six weeks in the paddock he is bucking his brand off we would obviously look at our options for the winter.”
He said another factor was No Problem was eligible for the QTIS bonus scheme.
“Evan Hartley who is boss of the Dovedene Syndicate has about a dozen horses with me and it is a bit of relief when one can bring in some big money,” he said.
“No Problem is tough like most of his sire Real Saga’s horses and that also makes him ideal for QTIS races as a three year old.”
No Problem cost $100,000 at the Gold Coast Ready to Run Sales last year.
He has already won $114,000 but can pick up a further $56,000 if he wins on Saturday.
