Half Yours OK after Caulfield Cup 2026 fall, jockeys discharged

The Victorian Jockeys Association has provided an update on the two jockeys involved in a fall during the 2026 Caulfield Cup, confirming they have been released from hospital.

Mark Zahra and Jye McNeil were taken to the Alfred Hospital for assessment following a significant incident in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday.

The fall began when Half Yours, ridden by Zahra, went down, and subsequently, McNeil’s mount Ohope Wins crashed over the top.

Regrettably, Ohope Wins was euthanised by Racing Victoria vets on humane grounds.

Zahra and McNeil underwent medical evaluations. Zahra was discharged on Saturday evening, while McNeil was released on Sunday morning.

“Both boys have escaped serious injury,” the VJA stated.

The racing campaign for the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Half Yours is likely at an end following the fall. The horse, along with last year’s Caulfield and Melbourne Cups winners, sustained injuries, including lacerations requiring stitches.

“We are blessed to have taken our horse home and he seems OK,” Tony McEvoy told racing.com.

“It was upsetting for everyone. They all (the stable staff) felt it.

“We sent out a really nice message to all our team at Flemington and Ballarat last night to assure them that our horse is OK and will recover.

“They wear it on their sleeve because they get very close to these horses and do a great job.

“It was gut-wrenching to watch but we feel blessed that we’ve been able to take our horse home and the jockeys are OK.”
