A return to Caulfield’s Heath track has boosted Michael Kent Jnr’s confidence with Guest House ahead of his long-anticipated debut in Saturday’s Magic Millions Victorian 2YO Classic.
The Home Affairs colt will line up in the $250,000 feature for Magic Millions graduates after a strong trial at the same venue last Thursday, where he cruised home by 1-1/2 lengths.
Kent, who trains in partnership with Mick Price, said he liked everything he saw in the youngster’s final tune-up.
“He’s got good talent, he’s a very speedy customer and we’ve done a lot of work on just getting him to harness his energy,” he said.
“I thought he acquitted himself very well. From an outside draw he begun OK, we could probably get that better, but then he mustered quickly without overdoing it (then) relaxed well outside the leader while going a nice tempo.
“I think on this Heath track it’s not easy to cover ground and keep going, so he showed good stamina later to extend and win nicely.”
Guest House defeated Invincible Son in the 850m trial, with several other runners from that heat—Sayalero and Oman—also among entries for Saturday’s race.
The juvenile was originally set to debut in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes but was scratched after two trials in five days. A short freshen-up followed before beating eventual Pakenham winner Milsons Point in a Cranbourne jumpout.
The Caulfield card also features the Magic Millions Victorian 3&4YO Classic, where Gin A Tonic chases a third straight win.
