Leading Golden Rose contender in spring racing carnival setback

ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Anamoe has suffered a setback with Godolphin confirming the colt has spiked a temperature which will force him to miss some work.

Trainer James Cummings said he remained hopeful Anamoe would be back on track after a few days rest.

“We advise that Anamoe threw a temperature overnight,” Cummings said.

“As a consequence, I have decided to postpone some competitive gallops.

“The colt’s progress will be monitored in the coming days and a return to normal will see him resume racing next month.”

Anamoe finished a luckless second to Stay Inside in the Golden Slipper when he got back to near-last from the outside barrier and stormed home.

He atoned with a resounding victory in the Sires’ Produce Stakes before Cummings made the decision to spell him.

The three-year-old was being earmarked for a return in The Run To The Rose (1200m) on September 11 ahead of the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) two weeks later.

He sits alongside Stay Inside at the top of Golden Rose betting with the pair at $4.50 apiece.
