News:

Peter Snowden was almost unbeatable at Hawkesbury’s biggest meeting of the year when he trained for Sheikh Mohammed.

Lightly raced mare Nancy ensured nothing has changed now Snowden is a public trainer.

Nothing except he is able to share a sixth Godolphin Crown triumph with his son Paul.

As Sheikh Mohammed’s Australian trainer, Snowden won the Crown five times with his sequence extending to Aerobatic’s victories in 2013 and 2014.

He missed out last year but he returned on Saturday with three runners of which Nancy was clearly the best-backed to start favourite at $4.40.

“It’s taken me a while to work her out but I think I’ve finally got it right,” Snowden said.

In a fast-run race, Nancy was smothered away on the inside for jockey Kerrin McEvoy and she was the first to set out after the leader Two Blue.

The four-year-old got the better of the Sapphire Stakes winner at the 200m and edged clear to win by 1-1/4 lengths.

Two Blue ($8) held down second with Press Report ($26) coming from midfield to finish third.

“The race was set up for her. They went pretty quickly and she was just sitting two pairs back smoking her pipe,” Snowden said.

McEvoy said Nancy’s win was a reward for a preparation that had confirmed her honest nature without having the right racing luck.

“She has been running well without winning this prep,” McEvoy said.

Nancy is only four runs into an autumn campaign but she is more than likely heading to the spelling paddock.

“I had it in my mind that might do her this preparation but we’ll let the dust settle and see what happens,” Snowden said.
