Glenlogan Park Stakes 2013 – Tips

The first of six black type races on the card for Doomben Saturday, with a field of 21 entered, you would think to be a typically open fillies and mares race however, the Chris Waller trained Arinosa who, barring her disqualification first up this prep, has won six of her past nine including the G3 Birthday Card Stakes and G2 Sapphire Stakes at her most recent two starts. She dominates the market at $2.10 with Risk Aversion, Bound to Blush and Petty Curry, the only other runners at single figures.

Glenlogan Park Stakes Form Guide

1. MORE STRAWBERRIES – M Cahill (6)

Singo could do with some good news but not so sure it will be delivered by this 5yo mare who is having her second run back from a 12 months break. Under 60kgs and a wide gate, she did all she could do first up in the Silk Stocking, finishing twelfth of fourteen behind Detours. Will need this run too.

More Strawberries

2. PEAR TART – J Byrne (14)

Dehere mare who blossomed this time last year winning four on the trot which culminated in the G1 Tatt’s Tiara. Since then though, despite running some good race, she hasn’t been able to secure another win. She was given a freshen up after competing in the top fillies and mare’s races in Sydney during the Autumn Carnival which included a third placing behind Steps In Time. Think she’ll need this hit-out.

3. GAI’S CHOICE – G Schofield (19)

Another mare who excelled at this carnival last year but who also has had trouble winning since.
She got well back in both her runs this time in and failed to make an impression in either the G2 Sapphire Stakes or, at her last start, the Gold Coast Silk Stocking. Needs to lift but from a wide draw will find it too hard.

4. ARINOSA – B Avdulla (3)

This Dash for Cash mare seems to improve lengths every time she steps out. In August of last year, she was competing in midweek events at Canterbury however; she’s now graduated to, in only six starts since that midweek race, a G2 winner mare. She was devastating in both the G3 Birthday Card (won by 1 ¾ ) and G2 Sapphire Stakes (4 ¼ ) and Brenton Avdulla has a record of eight rides, five wins and two second placings on her. The one to beat.

5. WHATEVERWHEREVER – G Colless (10)

Winner of the G3 Moonga Stakes at Caulfield last preparation, she returned for trainer Liam Birchley from a nineteen week spell with a second to last behind Detours in the Silk Stocking on the Gold Coast. Ran second when second up last prep but in a race far easier than this. Wait for another day with here.

6. EMMALINE – T Clark (12)

A good win first up saw her being taken to, where she was very well supported in betting, the G2 Sapphire Stakes at Randwick over the Autumn Carnival. Unfortunately, she was never out of trouble there and finished last. She almost repaid faithful punters in the Juanmo Stakes but was rolled on the line as 5/2 favourite by Black Magic and then, didn’t appreciate the heavy track or quality of opposition when second to last in the G1 BTC Cup at her last start. Been a mixed bag this prep but on her day, his capable of a cheeky effort.

7. QUIDNUNC –          (2)

Got a long way back first up in the Listed Darley Crown at Hawkesbury in a race and on a track, that didn’t suit that pattern of racing. She was ok late and finished 2.6 lengths behind winner and stable-mate Aerobatics. Only the one win from six starts second up but has been placed a further three occasions and, from a handy draw, is capable of placing again.

8. RISK AVERSION – C Munce (17)

Well bred 5yo mare who does a big finish under the right circumstances. She hasn’t raced since finishing four lengths behind Appearance in the G1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) which followed a nose second to Red Tracer in the G3 Millie Fox (1300m) on a heavy track. Will got a long way back and would be more inclined to include her if this was on the Eagle Farm circuit.

9. HIDDEN KISSES – M Rodd (8)

She’s won six of her thirty-two starts but in her most recent five starts, she’s started at 6/1 or shorter on five occasions and is yet to salute. Those efforts were in races of lesser quality than this one and she appeared to have every chance last start when second to Cuddlesome.

10. SKATING ON ICE –               (16)

We have to go back to January 2012 – fourteen starts ago now, to find this Bradbury’s Luck mare’s last win. In all fairness, she has been consistent this time in and recorded three placings from five starts this preparation however, from sixteen in Group company, expect she’ll be well accounted for.

11. CLASSICS –           (4)

Lightly raced mare from the Darley operation who hasn’t raced since finishing eighth of ten behind Cathay Lady in the Listed Belle of the Turf (1600m) at Gosford in January. She’s sure to be ready for this with three barrier trails (uncommon for Darley runners) in readiness for her return and has drawn well. A good run would not surprise.

12. BABEL  –             (13)

Another Darley mare that also contested the Listed Belle of the Turf at Gosford in January, she ran a head second to Cathy Lady. This 4yo Lonhro mare returned to racing with another close second, this time to Agister in a BM 85 at Hawkesbury three weeks back. A talented mare who will be better for the first up run and who also doesn’t run many bad races.

13. ALLTHERIGHTMOVES –             (9)

Won a Gold Coast Class 6 race when resuming from a spell three starts back and the daughter of Johannesburg has closed, without threatening the winner, in both runs since – the Listed Bribie Handicap (seventh, beaten 3 ½ ) and Silk Stocking (ninth, beaten 3.2 lengths). A back-maker whose chances will improve with any rain but even then, would find it hard to include her among the top chances.

14. BOUND TO BLUSH – H Bowman (21)

A smart mare by Strategic who gave a great sight first up in the Silk Stocking (1200m). From a good draw, she settle on a genuine speed and was only caught by several swoopers inside the last 50m and finished fifth, just over one length from the winner, Detours. The track and distance looks ideal but the barrier draw is a shocker.

15. FLYING JET – L Cassidy (18)

Jet Spur mare who, like she has done so here, has drawn wide in each of her last two starts – the Listed Juanmo Stakes and an Open class race at Eagle Farm. She had to get back in her races and has been fair in the run home on each occasion. She’ll get back yet again but will be giving too many good mares, too much of a start.

16. SOOKIE –          (7)

Three year old filly by Casino Prince who has won three of her eleven starts but takes on Group company for only the second time here. After winning an Open fillies race in good style back in February, she was given a let up and returned in a Class 6 Plate as 11/4 but was brought undone by the heavy conditions. Firmer surface will suit but still think she’s aiming a touch too high here.

17. PETTY CURRY – M Du Plessis (11) EM

A NZ mare who had won six from nine when coming across to contest the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) at her first Australian start. From one, she was charged with the job of chasing tearaway leader, Karuta Queen and she did so valiantly, holding on for fourth, less than a length from the winner Detours. That was her first run for nine weeks so would expect some improvement and a similar effort will see her very competitive here.

18. PURFECTRESS –           (15) EM

Noel Doyle galloper who has flashed home at her two most recent starts when just missing by a neck, to claim Venture On and last start, from last on the turn, running fourth behind Cuddlesome. Will get a long way back again from her draw but find it hard to see her running these mares down.

19. DIADEME – O Bosson (5) EM

Murray Baker brings this daughter of Savabeel to Australia with a record of four wins and five placings from ten starts to date. Among her wins is the G3 Westbury Classic (1400m) which she won, as she is here today, first up off a nine week spell. Ran third to Xanadu at her most recent start in G1 Company, has a good draw and top jock on board. Stays under close watch.

20. SHOW AFFECTION –           (1) EM

Well bred Show A Heart mare who has been working through her grades but who will also find this much harder than her last start where she finished second to last in Open company.

21. GLOVE –            (20) EM

Former handy Sydney galloper who now calls the Sunshine Coast home and who also has been well accounted for in Class 4 and 3 company in her two runs since returning from a ten month spell.

OVERVIEW

In her recent wins, Arinosa has drawn wide which, given her racing style, suits her however it’ll be interesting to see where Avdulla places her from gate three? She is clearly in better form than any other mare in the race and if the run is obtained by Avdulla, she’ll win. The Darley pairing trio of Babel, Quidnunc and Classics are the next best option for mine. The first pair have had the benefit of a run back and have been more than competitive in similar races in the past and Classics, has been tuned up for this, should get a lovely run from four and attracts attention at $12.00 Would really like to see the third emergency Diademe get a start but if not today, watch for her later in the carnival.
