Ben Melham will ride Puissance De Lune in Saturday’s Cox Plate with Glen Boss failing in his appeal against suspension.

Boss will also miss the prized ride on Rebel Dane in Friday night’s Group One Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley with Dwayne Dunn picking up the mount.

The leading jockey was outed for shifting ground in the early stages of Saturday’s Caulfield Cup and had appealed to Victoria’s Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board against the severity of the ban in an attempt to ride in the Cox Plate.

However the RAD dismissed his appeal on Tuesday, shortly after Caulfield Cup winning jockey Nick Hall appeared before the board in a similar bid.

Hall, suspended for careless riding in a support race on the Caulfield Cup program, is also out of the Cox Plate and has been replaced by Michael Rodd on Masked Marvel.

Rodd lost his Cox Plate ride on the favourite Atlantic Jewel when the mare was found to have a career-threatening tendon injury after she worked on Tuesday morning.
