Chautauqua’s owner Rupert Legh has flagged a possible clash with Winx in the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill saying the sprinter has lost his dash.
The gelding finished third in Saturday’s Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield over 1100 metres with Legh telling RSN927 on Monday he and trainer John Hawkes had discussed longer races.
Legh said the Newmarket Handicap over 1200 metres was still an option as long as Chautauqua did not get weighted out of the race while the 1500 metres of the 2017 George Ryder Stakes was also appealing but might come too soon.
