The signals Doubtfilly has given trainer Stuart Kendrick in trackwork has convinced him to start the mare in the George Moore Stakes at Doomben.

Kendrick decided to back up Doubtfilly in the Group Three sprint on Saturday after monitoring the mare’s progress since her fast-finishing third to Lady Echelon in last week’s Travel Associates Classic at Doomben.

“Initially we were going to race her in the Just Now Quality the following week but she’s pulled up so well from her Doomben run,” Kendrick said.

“She had a couple of easy days and a swim after the race and coming off the track yesterday she was squealing and playing.

“At the moment she’s bouncing out of her skin and she’s one of those mares who tells you when she’s feeling well.”

Another factor that has swayed Kendrick to start Doubtfilly in the George Moore is the 4.5kg weight drop from her last run.

“She’s only a pony so she did a huge job the other day with the 58.5kg on the heavy track and getting a bit of weight off her back will definitely help her,” he said.

In the George Moore, Doubtfilly has drawn barrier two which Kendrick is hoping is a good omen.

The mare has recorded three victories after jumping from barrier two including her latest success, the Ascot Handicap at Eagle Farm in June.

While Doubtfilly settled well back in the field at Doomben last Saturday, Kendrick believes the mare can take advantage of her favourable draw.

“If you really want to stoke her up she can probably lead but she’s always better when she can find her feet and then finish off her races strongly,” he said.

After the Moore, Doubtfilly is likely to have one more start before her main summer goal, the Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Handicap (1300m) at the Gold Coast on January 11.
