The Futurity Stakes has attracted a small field of just nine runners with Black Heart Bart installed an odds-on favourite after an emphatic win in the CF Orr.

He’s a perfect three-from-three over the 1400m at Caulfield and with five of his rivals from that race also engaged here, it’s difficult to see how any of them can turn the tables under the same WFA conditions.

With some harder races to follow, we’re expecting the big hitters to load up on Bart here with trainer Darren Weir making the surprise admission this may be his last run for the autumn.

Turn Me Loose won this event last year and after some indifferent form over the past 12 months, he was back to something approaching his best in the Orr.

Sent to the front, the bay looked some hope of winning when opening a bit of a gap at the 250m mark before Bart swooped and he looms as the biggest danger once again.

Palentino finished off his race nicely in the Orr and did have the better of Bart second-up in the Makybe Diva last preparation but that was at Flemington where he is more naturally suited.

Japanese galloper Tosen Stardom arrived in this country with some hefty wraps but has had a rough time of it with multiple complications restricting him to just the lone start last year.

As a result, we’re a bit unsure of what to make of him and will be interested to see if there is any market support and double figure odds.

Tips:

  1. Black Heart Bart
  2. Palentino
  3. Tosen Stardom
  4. Turn Me Loose
