After a patient rebuild, Future History has found top form again and Ciaron Maher is hopeful the veteran can continue his winning streak in Monday’s Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) at Warwick Farm.
The former French import has been in sparkling form this preparation, chasing a fourth straight victory after successive wins in Sydney and Melbourne.
“He’s in a good spot and when he gets that right race shape, I don’t think it matters what the trip is,” Maher said.
Future History arrives off wins in the Listed Christmas Cup (2400m), the Listed Bagot Handicap (2800m) and the Listed January Cup (2000m), with three different jockeys aboard.
He reunites with Adam Hyeronimus on Monday, a rider who has enjoyed strong success when teaming up with the Maher stable.
“It is all about the race shape and when he gets his way, he quickens up and it doesn’t matter whether the race is 2000 metres or 2400,” Maher said.
Maher also reflected on the gelding’s form slump following the 2023 Melbourne Cup (3200m).
“It took a long time for him to come good after that,” he said.
“He’s just a horse that is fit, well and thriving now. This race was always a target and I ran him in the other ones because I thought he could win.”
Maher is yet to decide whether stablemate Saint George will take his place in the race, with longer-term plans focused on the Roy Higgins Quality (2600m).
Those assessing the Australia Day Cup can review the latest betting markets for the race ahead of Monday’s feature.
