Just A Journey has confirmed her promise with a dominant front-running performance at Randwick’s Kensington track, marking back-to-back victories and putting her on track for a potential Queensland winter campaign.
Trained by Golden Slipper winner Michael Freedman, the daughter of Justify followed up a maiden win at Kembla Grange with a strong metropolitan effort on Wednesday, leading all the way under Tommy Berry.
She holds nominations for both the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on May 31 and the JJ Atkins (1600m) on June 14 at Eagle Farm. Stable rep Ben Duckworth said a northern campaign is now firmly on the table.
“We will have to have a look and wait and see how she pulls up but Queensland is obviously an option,” Duckworth said.
“She is a horse who has relished the 1400. Up to a mile could be a question but I’ll leave that one to the boss.”
Just A Journey ($7) never looked in doubt, holding Jenni Gone Bonkers ($11) by 1-1/2 lengths, with Ripley ($4.60 fav) finishing third.
“She wasn’t very good in the barriers today so I was a bit worried she wasn’t going to break as cleanly as she did but when she did, we were able to assume the lead quite comfortably and get a couple of cheap sectionals,” Berry said.
“Even though she won the other day I felt Jean (Van Overmeire) let the rest of the field catch him before he went and she is a filly who loves to build a bit of momentum.”
