The Freedman name is deeply embedded in Australian racing, and brothers Michael, Richard and Anthony will go head-to-head for family bragging rights at Rosehill on Saturday.
The Bisley Workwear Handicap (1100m) for two-year-olds has attracted a field of ten acceptors, with runners trained by the Freedman brothers wearing saddlecloths one, two and three.
Michael Freedman saddles up Outspan, a colt by Bivouac who closed off strongly behind Magic Millions 2yo Classic hopeful Knightsbridge at his most recent appearance.
Richard Freedman, who trains in partnership with his son Will, will be represented by Written In Munny, a Written Tycoon colt making his debut after winning his latest trial.
Anthony Freedman, in partnership with his son Sam, has accepted with a Pinatubo colt out of Calliope, making him a half-brother to star filly Tempted.
Written In Munny was a $360,000 yearling purchase and is out of American Listed winner Always In The Munny, with Richard Freedman noting that the brothers crossing paths in the same race is not uncommon.
“We’ve all had a runner in the same race before, but I don’t think it’s happened with first starters,” Freedman said.
With the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting between 9 and 45mm of rain in Sydney, Freedman said conditions will play a role in final race-day decisions but believes his colt has plenty of upside.
“I think the weather will play a part on whether that actually takes place,” Freedman said.
“We’re always sort of wary with that sort of stuff.
“He’s a nice horse. He’s fast, he’s got speed.
“He showed that in his trial, he’s just got to convert that to race performance.
“He was probably a little left in the tank, but he ran a second and a half quicker than any other trial, including group horses.
“He’s a nice horse, he can go on and he’ll probably be a better three-year-old.”
Markets are open across leading Australian betting sites for the Bisley Workwear Handicap as punters weigh up the Freedman trio.
The favourite for the race, won last year by Wodeton, is Thyme To Go for Annabel and Rob Archibald after finishing second to Knightsbridge on debut.
