Fox on the hunt of The Supernova 2025 win

Jenni The Fox might have just a maiden win to her name, but trainer Lucy Yeomans is convinced the mare has a stakes-level performance in her future.

While she admits that breakthrough is unlikely to come in Saturday’s The Supernova (1400m) at Pakenham, Yeomans is confident the lightly raced mare will acquit herself well.

The Supernova has attracted a strong line-up, including Group 1 winners Here To Shock and Pinstriped, as well as multiple Group 1 placegetter and Group 2 winner Private Eye, who heads south in pursuit of the $1 million purse.

Jenni The Fox runs under the Cape Schank Racing slot owned by Tony Ottobre, following her eye-catching fourth in The Meteorite (1200m) at Cranbourne on November 22, where she charged late after an unlucky passage.

“I think she is a serious horse, and we will see the best of her in six to 12 months,” Yeomans said.

“She can run a very quick sectional, the 1400 metres will suit, but there is a little query on the track as it has been a little sticky… if the rain comes, it might take the shine off her.”

Yeomans said the mare always delivers on race day and keeps improving with each run.

“This is a tougher task again, so she will need to raise that bar again,” she said.

“We’re not confident by any stretch, but I am confident she will run well.”

Jenni The Fox will jump from gate 12, with Yeomans accepting they will “just take their medicine” with the draw.

Jett Stanley takes over the ride following injuries to Blake Shinn and Declan Bates.

Yeomans joked, “Hopefully I’m not the jinx,” before adding her confidence in the young rider.

“Jett’s been riding for Tony… he came in and rode a bit of work for me. He had a sit on her Tuesday at Pakenham and rode her beautifully.”
