Only a small field of six fillies to take part in this Group 1 event and it looks a good chance that the trifecta produced in the Tea Rose Stakes a fortnight ago, could be duplicated here. Guelph, Arabian Gold and Bound for Earth, 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Tea Rose dominate the better here at $1.45, $3.20 and $9.00 respectively here.

1. GUELPH – K McEvoy (6)
This Exceed and Excel filly is the one they’ll have to beat and judging by her impressive victory in the Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) last fortnight, it’ll be a big challenge for her rivals to do so. The Tea Rose was her second run back from a spell (nose second to Bound for Earth in the Furious Stakes first up) and she relished the step up in distance to produce a big finish and win going away by 1 ¾ lengths. The mile is even more to her liking and she already has the G1 Champagne Stakes over this track/trip to her credit. Hard to found a reason why she won’t win.
2. BOUND FOR EARTH – J McDonald (2)
John O’Shea trained mare who rounded out her initial campaign with a third to Zoustar in the G2 QLD Sire’s Produce (1400m) back in May. Despite that effort, she started at $19.00 when resuming in the G2 Furious Stakes (1200m) and after a nice run throughout, dug deep late to beat Guelph and Thump (won a G2 race at Moonee Valley last Friday night). She was ridden on the speed last start in the Tea Rose (1400m) and only battled on for third (beaten 3.1 lengths) behind Guelph. Better ridden a little more quietly and has plenty of ability.
3. ARABIAN GOLD – P Robl (3)
Winner of four of her six starts when resuming from an eight week spell in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago. The David Vandyke mare travelled sweetly behind the pace and had her opportunity in the run home when a gap presented itself along the fence however, she found the finishing effort of Guelph (who was second up) too strong late and ran second by a 1 ¾ lengths. Excellent effort first up over a 1400m and can only be better for having had that run.
4. SHE’S BELLA – T Berry (5)
Half sister to the well performed Love Conquers All, this filly by Sebring comes from the Gai Waterhouse yard with six starts to her name. She’s won only one of those races by does have a second to the smart Cosmic Endeavour and last start, chased home Champagne Cath (since won) tenaciously to claim third in the Listed Reginald Allen. Likely she’ll go forward but taking on some of the best fillies going around here.
5. SENSIBILITY (4)
She’s an interesting runner. She made her debut with a strong win in a Mornington Maiden (1200m) for Trainer Peter Moody who then immediately shipped the daughter of Redoute’s Choice across to Adelaide for a shot at the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m). She started 14/10 favourite in Adelaide, settled on the pace but was overhauled late by Forever Discreet and finished fourth. An unorthodox preparation to say the least for a race of this quality.
6. REFER – B Avdulla (1)
Well bred daughter of Fastnet Rock but hasn’t been quite living up to her pedigree in four starts to date. She ran third – the second placing of her career – in a Hawkesbury Maiden (1400m) last start, beaten just on a length by Senior Council – that horse’s first win in seven starts. It is hard to see her being competitive against some of these on that form-line.
OVERVIEW
Hard to know who will take up the running here, possible the interstate visitor Sensibility however, whoever leads may be irrelevant. Hard to see how they beat Guelph who, once she hit tip gear in the Tea Rose, rounded them up and disposed of them in a neat manner. It looks as though the place-getters from that race, Arabian Gold and Bound For Earth are her only dangers. Arabian Gold could improve off the run given it was her first for a while whilst Bound For Earth beat Guelph fair and square in the Furious Stakes but at a mile, will found it a little more difficult.
