First Seal ready for Golden Pendant return

First Seal

As a three-year-old, First Seal had the better of Winx but much has happened in the two years since she beat her twice in the spring.

Two separate injuries have interrupted First Seal’s career but trainer John Thompson believes he has her back near her best ahead of her return in next week’s Group Two Golden Pendant.

On Saturday, the mare showed she was ready for her latest comeback with a raceday gallop at Randwick with regular rider Blake Shinn aboard.

She worked with stablemate Dream Force who led at a slow pace early with the pair picking up the tempo to run the last 600 metres in 35.7 seconds with the mare putting her head in front near the line.

“She is where we want her heading into the Golden Pendant which is an ideal race for her,” Thompson said.

“It’s good prize money, set weights and it’s an easy option for her.

“After that she goes to Melbourne for the Tristarc Stakes and then the Myer Classic.

“She is sound and happy which is the main thing and I’m looking forward to her return.”
