Horse Racing News: Filly ready to make mark at Caulfield races

Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr are hoping to tick off Rosangela’s maiden win when she contests the Next Payments Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield this Saturday.

The promising filly, by Too Darn Hot, has shown talent in her only two appearances so far. She debuted in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on November 30, where she finished fifth behind Palm Angel. After a spell, she returned with a strong second over 1000m at Cranbourne on April 24.

Kent Jnr revealed that Rosangela suffered a setback after her debut, which forced connections to bypass the key two-year-old targets, including the Blue Diamond Series and the Golden Slipper.

“In the Merson Cooper on debut she had an issue after the run,” Kent Jnr explained.

“She came back and was very good first-up but was just out collared late by a more experienced race fit horse.

“The 1100 metres should suit her on Saturday.

“She’s a well-bred filly, being by Too Darn Hot, is very genuine and she has been working well.”

Rosangela has drawn barrier seven in a field of 11, with John Allen booked to ride.

The stable also has first-starter Millennium Blade entered for the same race, although she is unlikely to run at Caulfield. She has drawn barrier three but is expected to head to Adelaide for the Group 3 David Coles Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

Originally trained by Mathew Ellerton, Millennium Blade was transferred to the Price and Kent Jnr team and recently won a jump-out at Cranbourne ahead of her debut. Ben Melham takes the ride in Adelaide, where she has drawn barrier six in a field of 11.
