Most of the top contenders have secured favorable draws for the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill this Saturday.
Tempted, the impressive winner of the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m), has shortened to $5.00 as the second favorite after landing barrier one. Meanwhile, Chris Waller’s Wodeton, the $4.50 favorite, will start from barrier two.
Charlie Duckworth, Waller’s assistant trainer, expressed satisfaction with the draw but revealed plans to adopt a more conservative riding strategy for Wodeton after being caught late by Tentyris in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) last start.
“We’ll be riding him more conservatively, but you can’t complain with a good gate,” Duckworth said.
“It means we don’t have to do any extra work—just let him jump out, stay neutral, and enjoy the run.”
Skyhook, who dominated last week’s Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m), will back up this Saturday. Co-trainer Sterling Alexiou confirmed the Written Tycoon colt will take his place from barrier eight.
“He’s recovered really well from the race,” Alexiou said. “He’s bright, eating well, and had a good drink after the race, which helped. We’re very pleased with how he’s started the week.”
“From the middle of the row, there’s plenty of speed drawn wide, but he’s got good gate speed. He’ll likely slide across and hopefully find a nice position.”
Skyhook drifted slightly from $7.00 to $8.00 after the barrier draw but remains the third favorite in the full field of 16. The Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou stable will also field Black Opal Stakes winner King Of Pop, who has drawn the widest barrier.
The only other runner in single figures is Kris Lees’ unbeaten colt Rivellino, who has firmed into $9.00 in Golden Slipper odds after drawing barrier three. Meanwhile, Michael Freedman’s Marhoona has shortened from $26 to $15 following a favorable draw in barrier six.
