International invaders are continuing to prove very popular with European horses dominating Melbourne Cup betting with online bookmaker sportsbet.
French stayers Americain ($5.50) and Dunaden($7.00) have had a see-sawing battle in the popularity stakes. Last year’s winner Dunaden has stolen back the mantle from the 2010 Cup winner, as the best backed runner.
However, after a glowing trackwork report from new race jockey Damien Oliver, Americain firmed in from $6.00 overnight.
Other invaders Mount Athos ($9.00 into $8.00) and Red Cadeaux ($12) have also had support and round out the top four of the best backed runners.
Maluckyday ($10 out to $12) leads the charge for the Aussies and is the best backed local hope, ahead of Ethiopia, who has had support at $17.
“The invaders are the only ones punters seem to want. Dunaden is currently the best backed horse in the Cup, but that could change with the support that is arriving for Americain,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
Galileo’s Choice continues to move towards the top of betting, firming from $21 into $17, while Green Moon has drifted further, easing from $21 out to $26.
