Entirely Platinum gets another shot at C F Orr Stakes

Entirely Platinum isn’t one of the 13 Group One winners in the C F Orr Stakes but his jockey Dwayne Dunn reckons he deserves to join them.

Runner-up to reigning Horse of the Year Dissident last year, the Hawkes Racing-trained Entirely Platinum goes into Saturday’s weight-for-age race at Caulfield as an $18 chance.

“He deserves a Group One race,” Dunn said.

“He’s been a warhorse. He always puts his hand up and unfortunately always seems to find one better than him in the Group One races.”

Dunn believes Entirely Platinum has come back in terrific order and is capable of figuring again in the Orr Stakes (1400m) but admits it’s also a tough task given the depth of the field.

“It’s not an easy race but hopefully he can be up in the right spot and can break that Group One hoodoo,” he said.

Entirely Platinum was beaten a short-head by Orr rival Boban in the Memsie Stakes in the spring over the same course and distance.

The six-year-old gelding also has a Group One minor placing in last spring’s Makybe Diva Stakes.

“He hasn’t done that by a fluke,” Dunn said.

“He’s met the best and acquitted himself well. He looks better than last year and is trialling up as good if not better, but he’ll have to be given the quality of this race is awesome.”
