The Ciaron Maher team is eyeing another Magic Millions raid with Icarian Dream as the talented filly moves toward a return to Queensland this summer.
The daughter of Blue Point contested the Magic Millions 2YO Classic earlier in the year and is now being primed for a shot at the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on January 17.
Her next stop may come as soon as this weekend, with the stable leaning toward a start in the Listed Gold Edition Plate at Eagle Farm.
The filly was a winner on this program last year when taking out the Group 3 B J McLachlan Stakes, defeating Cool Archie—who may again line up on Saturday.
Icarian Dream is currently based in New South Wales and, according to Maher Racing’s National Assistant Trainer Jack Turnbull, will be among the acceptors before the stable makes its final decision.
The filly has not raced since finishing third behind Sheza Alibi in the Group 3 The Vanity during Melbourne Cup week.
“We thought she was profiling exactly the right way before we gave her a break,” Turnbull said.
“We were toying with the idea of some headgear, but she had a bit of a shaky period getting off to the races with an embargo, but once that was cleared she has been building.
“She’s in really good shape, so we’re thinking of the Gold Edition on Saturday and then there are a few other options after that which lead to the big one on January 17.”
The filly had a week’s freshen after her Flemington placing before being put back into work for her Magic Millions preparation.
“We tipped her out for a week on the grass … the goal has always been to get her back up there,” Turnbull said.
“She ran in the two-year-old feature last year but drew right off the track and it never went to plan.
“She’s a Group 3 winner … she definitely hasn’t lost the ability. We just need to get her back to her right form.”
