Dream The Showdown set-up for Azzopardi

David Azzopardi will have his eyes on two runners in Saturday’s $1 million The Showdown at Caulfield, with Dream Thoroughbreds represented by his own horse, Befuddle, trained by John Sadler, and McGaw, who Azzopardi bred and sold.

While Azzopardi’s main support will go to Befuddle, who races in his colours, he admits he wouldn’t mind seeing McGaw win either. Azzopardi sold McGaw for $14,000 at last year’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, and McGaw’s impressive debut victory at Pakenham only increased the value of his mare, Niki Piki Milo.

McGaw, trained by David and Emma-Lee Browne, is among the favourites for the race, and Azzopardi is optimistic about both horses’ chances. “I’m supporting Befuddle, but if McGaw wins, I wouldn’t be too upset,” Azzopardi said. “Befuddle’s win would mean a good result with a $550,000 prize, but I’m excited for both.”

Befuddle is a $15 chance in the market, and Azzopardi has high hopes for her after a thrilling win at Moonee Valley last month. He believes that with a good draw, she has a real chance of finishing in the top three. “I think the race is winnable, and she can definitely run top-three,” Azzopardi said.

With both horses showing promise, the showdown between these two talented runners is shaping up to be an exciting contest.
