Doubt I’m Dreaming scares off Thoroughbred Club Cup rivals

It’s not often the Lindsay Park stable gets frightened off by the presence of a single horse in a particular race.

But with the John McArdle-trained Doubt I’m Dreaming running in the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup at Caulfield on Saturday, senior trainer David Hayes has rethought his plans with Will’s Bid.

The colt is an acceptor in Saturday’s 1200m-race but Hayes says he favours sending the two-year-old to Adelaide to run in the Group Three Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

A Geelong winner on debut, Will’s Bid hasn’t raced since beating one home in the Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield in February which followed an unlucky performance in the Blue Diamond Prelude two weeks earlier.

Hayes said Will’s Bid was down to have a jump-out at Flemington last Friday but those trials were washed out and instead the colt had a solid gallop.

Damien Oliver has been booked for the ride at Morphettville while Luke Nolen has been paid up for at Caulfield.

“I’ve been saving him up for a stakes race,” Hayes said.

“He only had a freshen-up after the Blue Diamond so he won’t be in need of a run.

“I was disappointed with him in the Blue Diamond but he was very unlucky in the Prelude.

“He’s a pretty good horse. It”s just the rap on Johnnie’s is huge which is why I think we’ll go to Adelaide.

“Evidently he (Doubt I’m Dreaming) rated like a superstar when he won at Moonee Valley compared to the other races on the night.”

Lindsay Park will be represented by maiden filly Proposal at Caulfield.

Proposal has had two starts, finishing a debut ninth over 1000m at Sandown last month before a half-length second on the Pakenham synthetic track on April 20.

“She hasn’t won yet but her runs haven’t been too bad,” Hayes said.

“I wouldn’t think we could beat Johnnie’s horse, but if she got some black-type I think that would be a good result.”

In-form apprentice Beau Mertens, who missed Wednesday’s meeting at Sandown through illness, has been booked to ride Proposal.
