The Doncaster winner is in peak form and was a heavily-backed winner of the Hollindale Stakes on the Gold Coast a fortnight ago.

All but headed nearing the turn, the Godolphin runner found plenty of fight to ward off the challenge of Single Gaze and register a third consecutive Group level win.

With no less of seven of his Hollindale rivals engaged here under the same WFA conditions, Darren Beadman’s charge presents as the horse to beat and we’re expecting him to find plenty of support at around the 4.00 mark once again.

Ruled out of the Hollindale after flight problems, Articus went on to race and win at Flemington and with his travel schedule unhindered this time, the Weir-import will take his place on Saturday.

This horse has had some massive raps on it since arriving in Australia but might not quite live up to the mantle and we’re happy to accommodate punters wanting to back him.

Instead, it was impossible to miss the run of Sense of Occasion in the Hollindale and he’s a horse we have always held in high regard.

Of the others, Blake Shinn has won this race twice in the past three years and will be aboard Perth Cup winner Star Exhibit, while Desleigh Forster’s Cylinder Beach looks the best outside hope of the local brigade.
