Doomben 10,000 won by Epaulette

Darley three-year-old Epaulette has added another Group One win to his record after producing a late run to claim the Doomben 10,000 on Saturday.

Epaulette, winner of the Group One Golden Rose at Rosehill in September, came from beyond midfield to win the time-honoured Queensland sprint.

Doomben Race 7 Epaulette - Kerrin McEvoy

The Peter Snowden-trained colt settled in ninth position and still had a lot of work to do as the field straightened for the finish.

But he was able to surge between horses from the 200m for jockey Kerrin McEvoy to claim the bulk of the $650,000 purse as he ran away from his rivals.

Last year’s winner Sea Siren fought bravely to finish second after covering ground while Buffering had to settle for another Group One placing when he wound up third.

Buffering made the running with the favourite Your Song racing at his girth after they crossed the face of the field from wide draws.

They momentarily paired off early in the straight but Your Song was the first to buckle under the pressure and the BTC Cup winner soon faded from contention.
