Race 1 – Class 6 Plate (1000m)

Dusty Tycoon has two wins and two placings from five starts over 1000m including a second two back at this track and distance.

The four year old mare has been placed in 11 of 20 overall and represents good each way value at $14 at time of publish.

Race 2 – Listed Members’ Handicap (1600m)

A tough race awaits the punters in the second race on the card with plenty of winning chances.

Derulo has put in two impressive runs so far this prep including a narrow loss at Listed level on the heavy track last time out at Doomben.

A repeat of that effort would see him go close in this event.

Bet Now: Derulo

Race 3 – Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap (2343m)

A lot of these at the top of the market have proven they do not handle the real heavy track which is likely what we will get on Saturday.

Smart Meteor was not far away when resuming on the heavy at Doomben at Listed level and was beaten less than two lengths last start behind Major Artie.

He has a win on the heavy and he will be ready to peak now stepping up to a distance where he has two wins from four four starts.

Bet Now: General Firepower

Race 4 – Group 2 Stradbroke Calcutta 3YO Plate (1400m)

Startantes was beaten a lip in the Group 1 Surround Stakes during her autumn campaign and returned with a fast finishing fourth when beaten under two lengths against the older horses in the Group 2 Victory Stakes.

She rises just half a kilo on that effort and back to her own age group and with even luck she will be winning this and she is my best of the day and the $10 available in the Stradbroke looks a good bet for mine.

Bet Now: Startantes

Race 5 – Group 2 Spirit Of Boom Classic (1200m)

Peter Moody has always had a high opinion of this colt by Zoustar which was founded when he won the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington at his second start.

His first up effort in at listed level at this track was full of merit without placing and he will take plenty of improvement out of the run.

I’m not sure he is up to this level but we are getting a nice price to find out in an open race.

Bet Now: Brereton

Race 6 – Listed MM Bright Shadow (1200m)

Babylon Berlin brings very consistent form across the ditch from New Zealand.

The four year old mare is a Group 3 winner and was placed at Group 1 level on New Years Day at Ellerslie.

She was last seen in March when narrowly beaten at Group 3 level and she is two from two on the heavy track.

There has been a stack of early support in betting suggesting she is the one to beat.

Bet Now: Babylon Berlin

Race 7 – Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2143m)

Dark Destroyer was excellent in the Queensland Guineas when finishing second behind Character and he was doing his best work late in the race.

The step up sharply in distance is a concern, as is the awkward barrier draw but he is one from one on the heavy track.

Southern Stock’s run in the same race was full of merit and he too found the line nicely at the end of the race.

The son of Tavistock is bred to get the distance and is also unbeaten from one start on the heavy.

Bet Now: Dark Destroyer

Race 8 – Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m)

Although he hasn’t been punter’s favourite, Kementari has been a consistent performer over his career.

He has placed in 20 of his 40 career race starts and he actually comes into this Group 1 event having won two of his last three.

His first up win in the Hall Mark Stakes at Randwick was huge when beating Count De Rupee and Big Parade.

That horse has since gone on to win the Victory Stakes and Kementari meets him three kilos better at the weights.

Bet Now: Kementari

Race 9 – Benchmark 85 Handicap (1400m)

The Australian Bloodstock import Acquitted was beaten two lengths in his Australian racing debut at Randwick last start but he did not have it all his own way in running.

He will take plenty of improvement out of that run and the early support in betting suggests he will run well.

He was one win from two attempts on the heavy track.

Bet Now: Acquitted
