Don’t Give A Damn likely to target Anniversary Highway

Punters have thrown their weight behind Don’t Give A Damn and been rewarded with the four-year-old putting a space on his opposition in the Highway Handicap at Rosehill.

Backed from $1.80 to $1.65 in Saturday’s 1500m-event, Don’t Give A Damn hit the front in the straight and strode clear for a 6-1/2 length win over Delivered ($21).

His trainer Danny Williams knows he has a potential star on his hands but is undecided about his next step.

“We’ll give him a few days in the paddock and then decide whether we freshen him up for Everest day or put him away and look at something further down the track,” Williams said.

“I have Pumpkin Pie as my leading chance for the Anniversary Highway.”

The $200,000 Anniversary Highway is one of the support races on the Randwick program featuring the $10 million Everest on October 14.

Although he is a four-year-old, Don’t Give A Damn didn’t make his debut until this season and Saturday’s race was his third start and his second win.

“Gratz Vella had him early in his career and he had a couple of jump-outs for him,” Williams said.

“He is still learning and I think he loses concentration.

“But who knows what he is capable of.”
