News:

A surprise debut win at Wyong has earned Stilettoed Vixen the right to accompany her better credentialled stablemate Ygritte to the feature meeting at Scone.

The two-year-old filly surprised both punters and her trainer Gerald Ryan when she beat the fancied Queen Tara in a 1000m maiden on April 30 as a $51 chance.

Ryan and her owners have taken the plunge and entered her in Saturday’s $140,000 Listed Woodlands Stakes in which she is likely to again take on the David Vandyke-trained Queen Tara.

“She surprised me when she won because she hadn’t shown that at home,” Ryan said.

“But she has done well since and we’ll give her a go.”

Her travelling companion Ygritte is a Listed winner and four-time Group placegetter who goes to the $400,000 Inglis Guineas as the equal highest rated three-year-old in the 1400m race.

She and the Robbie Laing-trained Boomwaa head the 20 entries on 84, two points clear of the Bede Murray-trained Country Championship winner Sure And Fast.

The winner of the Gosford Guineas on April 2, Ygritte finished third in the Listed South Pacific Classic at Randwick on April 11.

She pleased Ryan in a jump-out on Friday to keep her up to the mark after the Hawkesbury Guineas on May 2 was washed out.

Ryan elected not to run her in the rescheduled race on Saturday won by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Najoom who is entered in Saturday’s Group Three Dark Jewel Classic.

“She looks really well and has done everything right,” Ryan said.

“We decided to keep her for Scone rather than run her two weeks in a row after Hawkesbury was washed out.”

Boomwaa finished a tiring 11th of 12 in a 1350m benchmark race at Rosehill on Saturday but nothing was found amiss after the race.

The Ryan-trained Peace Force, second to stablemate Solicit in Saturday’s Darley Crown, was among the nominations for the $200,000 Dark Jewel (1400m) but will run in Brisbane a week later.

The Scone two-day carnival begins on Friday with the $200,000 Scone Cup.
