Damien Oliver cops suspension on the chin

Jockey Damien Oliver says he accepts full responsibility for a positive breath test which has cost him a one-month suspension.

Oliver was stood down at Warrnambool on Wednesday when he recorded .038, above the .02 limit for jockeys but less than the .05 to drive a car.

“They’re the rules and you have to abide by them,” Oliver told Melbourne radio RSN.

“The onus is on me to be there under that limit.

“I’m very embarrassed by my actions.

Oliver said he thought the limit was fair.

“It’s a dangerous sport. I think it’s reasonable,” he said.

Oliver said he had gone out on Wednesday night but thought he had given himself sufficient time to re-hydrate ahead of the final day of the three-day carnival.
