Punters are moving back towards It’s A Dundeel’s corner for the Sportingbet Cox Plate, confident the star four-year-old’s troublesome build-up hasn’t affected his chances of victory in Australia’s premiere weight for age race.
It’s A Dundeel pressured Atlantic Jewel for Sportingbet Cox Plate favouritism following his win over her in the Underwood Stakes on September 21, but his odds have since drifted from $3.70 to $6.50 at Sportingbet after the New Zealand galloper missed a key lead-up run in last Saturday’s Caulfield Stakes due to a foot abscess.
But punters are once again rallying behind the New Zealander.
“They’ve recognised he’s now out to a very attractive price and we’ve taken a number of significant four-figure bets in recent days,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.
“If he gallops well between races at Caulfield on Wednesday as expected, he is likely to shorten up from his current quote,” Brown said.
Atlantic Jewel has firmed from $2.80 into $2.25 at Sportingbet since Saturday’s Caulfield Stakes win, resulting in Fiorente’s odds easing from $4.80 to $5.50. Puissance De Lune remains solid at $6.
Punters also continue to gamble on the chances of Caulfield Guineas winner Long John taking his place in the Sportingbet Cox Plate.
“There has been a notable spike in the number of bets for Long John which suggests Darley may opt to run him after all,” Brown said.
Lohn John has shortened from $61 into $21 for the Sportingbet Cox Plate since winning the Caulfield Guineas last Saturday.
