Coolmore Stud Stakes – Winner
No. 6 Paulele
In my opinion, he is the best horse in the Coolmore Stud Stakes field that is yet to win a serious feature race, and I think that Paulele will be saluting on Saturday.
The Dawn Approach colt showed promise during his two-year-old season, but it is fair to say that he has gone to another level this time, and has recorded two wins and two second placings from his four starts.
He made light work of them in the Roman Consul Stakes last time and steps out rock-hard fit on Saturday.
As long as he handles the straight, he’ll take a power of beating.
Coolmore Stud Stakes – 2nd
Home Affairs takes his place in the Coolmore Stud Stakes field following an appearance in The Everest, and he will relish getting back into his own age group.
Home Affairs returned some eye-catching performances during the Autumn Carnival, highlighted by his win in the Silver Slipper, and he stamped himself as one to follow this time with a bullish fresh effort in the Heritage Stakes.
He didn’t trouble them in the $15 million feature at Randwick a fortnight ago, but this is clearly a far more appropriate target for him, and I think he’ll be right in the finish.
Coolmore Stud Stakes – 3rd
No. 2 Artorius
Artorius is another galloper who could just come out and brain them in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, but he is dropping back from a mile, and that leaves something of a question mark over him.
The Flying Artie gelding enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence during his two-year-old campaign, and he won the Neds Blue Diamond at just his third career starts.
He is unlucky not to have returned to winning form in four starts back this time, but he’s drawn to receive a lovely run again and if the drop in trip doesn’t prove to be a problem, he’s certainly up to winning.
Coolmore Stud Stakes – 4th
No. 17 Gimmie Par
I’m tossing one in with a little bit of speculation, but Gimmie Par does have plenty of ability and she is one of the few horses in the Coolmore Stud Stakes field that is proven down the straight.
The Peter Moody-trained filly has missed placing only once in four career starts, and returned this time for a lovely win in the Quezette Stakes.
She was last seen finishing fourth behind Kallos in the Danehill and I am confident that she’ll enjoy plenty of improvement into this.
