Amelia’s Jewel is set for a new chapter abroad, with the Group 1-winning mare heading to the United States after being purchased by Coolmore at Thursday night’s Chairman’s Sale in Sydney.
Coolmore’s Tom Magnier secured the daughter of Siyouni for $3.8 million, revealing plans to send her to Kentucky to be served by their standout American stallion Justify.
“We’re going to send her to America to go to Justify, that’ll be the plan with her,” Magnier said.
“She’s a very good mover, she’s just a quality mare. She’s a household name, she’s the kind mare you dream about having, and we’re just very fortunate to get her.”
Because Justify no longer shuttles to Australia, Amelia’s Jewel will be covered to Southern Hemisphere time at Coolmore’s American base before returning home.
The purchase signals the end of her racing career, with Amelia’s Jewel bowing out a winner of 10 races from 24 starts. Her career highlights include the 2022 Northerly Stakes (1800m) and the Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) earlier this year.
She also finished runner-up to Atishu in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) and placed twice in the rich WA slot race The Quokka (1200m).
Amelia’s Jewel was a late addition to the sale and closed the night as the final lot, becoming the second highest-priced horse sold behind Bella Nipotina, who fetched $4.2 million.
Both mares surpassed the previous Chairman’s Sale record of $3.6 million, set by Nimalee in 2022.
Magnier continued his strong presence at the sale, also picking up Tiz Invincible and Estriella for $2.8 million apiece. The pair, both daughters of I Am Invincible, will be sent to Wootton Bassett this spring.
Wootton Bassett, a son of Iffraaj, was recently announced as standing for an Australian record $350,000 (plus GST) at Coolmore’s Hunter Valley base.
It was a record-setting night for the Chairman’s Sale, grossing $54,430,000 — up over $9.5 million from the previous high — with an average price of $706,883, up 18 percent from last year.
It’s no surprise that interest in these elite mares also drives excitement for punters and breeders alike. Fans looking to follow future progeny or place a punt on upcoming stars can explore the best betting sites in Australia.
