Coolmore Classic Tips and Field Preview – 2017

Up in Sydney, the Coolmore Classic (Race 7) for fillies and mares over 1500m headlines a quality card of action at Rosehill with Chris Waller’s highly touted filly Omei Sword looking to break through for a maiden Group 1 win.

Wet weather once again threatens to undermine the meeting with the track rated a Heavy 9 at the time of writing and rain falling steadily in the harbour city for much of the week.

Settling at the rear of the field, Omei Sword left herself with a bit too much to do in the Surround Stakes as she could only finish second to La Bella Diosa but Waller has every confidence in her ability to get the job done.

However, favourites have an appalling recent record in this event with the last five races producing a winner priced at 7/1 or better which gives us some confidence that we can get her beaten in a field with plenty of starch.

Second pick Dixie Blossoms comes off a dominant performance on the same card in the Guy Walter Stakes where she won by more than six lengths.

Her trainer Ron Quinton has a really affinity with this race having tasted success with both Ofcourseican (2011) and Peeping last year.

Of the others, Global Glamour has been up for a while now and, as with the favourite, has a tough draw to negotiate but must be respected.

While In Her Time, from the Benjamin Smith yard at Newcastle, has strung together four straight wins this preparation and might be pretty useful judging by her most recent effort in the Millie Fox.
