Coeur Volante chases Mike Moroney dream in Tattersall’s Tiara 2025

The late Mike Moroney always saw something special in Coeur Volante, believing the filly was capable of reaching Group 1 heights.

She went into the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield last spring as the race favourite and although she finished fourth behind Joliestar, she was in elite company with Kimochi and Skybird finishing ahead and both later becoming Group 1 winners.

Coeur Volante provided Moroney with his final winner before his passing when she triumphed in the Mannerism Stakes at Caulfield earlier this year.

Now trained by Ben, Will & Jd Hayes, she is set to line up in Saturday’s Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm, her second run under the Lindsay Park banner after finishing ninth in the Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m).

“We are very happy with how she’s progressed out of her first-up run,” Will Hayes said.

“We were seven weeks between runs, not by design, just with the floods and the weather up there, we couldn’t get a run into her.

“But she has tightened up nicely and we expect her to run a forward race.”

Jordan Childs retains the ride but will need a tactful steer after drawing the wide barrier 20, which may become gate 15 should emergencies withdraw.

Lindsay Park will be chasing another elite-level success following their recent Stradbroke Handicap win with War Machine, also formerly trained by Moroney.
