Clayton Douglas filly among nominations for Chairman’s Stakes

Trainer Clayton Douglas has expressed his desire for No Limitation to have a better race day experience than her debut performance before giving the filly a break.

Douglas has entered No Limitation in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Sandown this Saturday.

A two-year-old daughter of Exceedance from Piero Belle, No Limitation finished sixth on her debut behind Cavalry Girl over 1000m at Flemington on January 18.

In that race, No Limitation showed early speed up the straight but ultimately finished just over five lengths behind the winner.

Cavalry Girl is also entered for the Chairman’s Stakes this Saturday, but trainer Tom Dabernig has indicated that the filly will instead travel to Sydney for the Inglis Millennium (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday week.

“I thought she ran quite well up the straight at Flemington,” Douglas said.

“She got bumped coming onto the course proper and lost all her momentum, but I thought after that she toughed it out quite well.”

While the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 22 is the target for most two-year-old owners at this time of year, Douglas prefers to give No Limitation this Saturday’s run and then a break.

“She’ll probably only have one more run, and if she performs well, she can have a break and maybe come back for a later autumn preparation, or we may even wait for the early three-year-old races,” Douglas said.

“We’ll just see how she goes and work it out from there.”

A total of 24 two-year-olds have been entered for Saturday’s race, with No Limitation being one of only eight horses who have previously raced.

Last year’s Chairman’s Stakes was won by Coleman, who was well-supported following his debut victory in the Debutant Stakes (1000m) the previous spring.

The last two-year-old to achieve the Chairman’s Stakes – Blue Diamond double was Extreme Choice in 2016.
