Horse Racing News: Classy September Born set for May return

Promising three-year-old September Born is ready to return to the races following an impressive trial win that has restored trainer Neville Parnham’s confidence in the colt’s potential.

Under the guidance of jockey Brad Parnham, September Born surged late to claim a 950m heat victory in his second trial, showing no signs of the issues that derailed his spring campaign.

Parnham is hopeful the son of Playing God can bounce back strongly after a disappointing result in last year’s WA Guineas (1600m), where he finished eighth behind Storyville before being found to be lame post-race.

“Unfortunately, he pulled up with pretty severe bruising and had an abscess forming,” Parnham told Tabradio.

“He went into the race pretty much the favourite, I think, and we walked away with our heads down and disappointed.”

Before the setback, September Born had taken out the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) and ran a close second in the Belgravia Stakes (1200m), making him one of the most promising horses in the west.

Now fully recovered, he will resume in a 1200m three-year-old set weights and penalties race at Belmont on May 31, before targeting the Listed Raconteur Stakes and the Belmont Guineas (1600m) on June 28.

“He’s had a nice break now and has come back in pretty good order,” Parnham said.

“That will give him a good step into the 1400m of the Raconteur, also at set weights and penalties. Then onto the Belmont Guineas — that will be his path this preparation.”

September Born is a half-brother to Kay Cee, who won both the Raconteur Stakes and Belmont Guineas in 2020, and connections will be hoping he can emulate her success this winter.
