Racing News:
Trainer David Vandyke has appealed the $25,000 fine handed to him for Yankee Rose’s positive test to banned substance Ketorolac after the Group One Flight Stakes.
Vandyke pleaded guilty to causing the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory to be administered to the star filly by vet David Garth as well as presenting the horse on race day with a prohibited drug in her system.
Yankee Rose was disqualified from the race at Randwick on October 1, forfeiting $99,000 in prize money.
She went on to win the Group One Spring Champion Stakes one week later before running third behind Winx and Hartnell in the Cox Plate.
A date has yet to be determined for Vandyke’s appeal hearing.
Meanwhile, Chris Waller’s appeal over the severity of the $30,000 fine given to him for a positive to methylamphetamine has been set down for February 10.
Betcha Thinking returned a positive result for the drug known as ice after running second at Canterbury on October 5 but the source of the horse’s contamination remained a mystery.
