Chairman’s Stakes 2016: Extreme Choice odds-on for G3

Extreme Choice has been installed odds-on favourite to claim a Group win at his second start when he lines up in the Chairman’s Stakes.

The reigning Blue Diamond favourite, Extreme Choice headlines a field of nine for Saturday’s Group Three race over 1000m at Caulfield.

The $150,000 Chairman’s Stakes is one of two races for two-year-olds on Saturday’s program with the other the sales-restricted $250,000 Inglis Premier (1200m) which has attracted a field of 13.

Extreme Choice is at $1.70 in an early market ahead of the Robert Smerdon-trained Pearl Congenial ($7.50) who is also an acceptor in a fillies’ race at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

The Mick Price-trained Extreme Choice won his only start in the $500,000 Inglis Nursery in Sydney in December by two lengths.

Trainer Mick Kent will weigh up his options with unraced filly Om Nom who is an acceptor in the Chairman’s and will also be paid up for a 1205m juvenile race at Sale on Sunday.

Kent said the Sale race was the original plan, but the less than capacity Chairman’s Stakes line-up didn’t appear as strong as he anticipated.

Only three of the nine acceptors have race experience.

“It’s hard to get a line on them,” Kent said.

“She’s a filly that will be better at six furlongs (1200m) than 1000 metres, but we’ll pay up for Sale and then decide what we’re going to do when we see the fields.

“She has trialled OK. She’s very strong late. She looks like she’s more a Sires’ Produce Stakes filly than a Diamond filly, but we need to start her off.”
