Country Cups specialist Constant Force will be given another chance to prove himself at city level with trainer Symon Wilde wanting a dry track and some luck at Caulfield.

Constant Force has been a dominant horse on the Victorian provincial scene with wins in last year’s Colac, Stawell and Ballan Cups backed up by his Kyneton Cup win on November 6.

Rain forced him out of last Sunday’s $200,000 Ballarat Cup.

Wilde, who trains in tandem with his father Bill, reckons Constant Force’s eighth place at Moonee Valley in the Country Cup on October 25 was better than it looked.

“He should have won that race but he got locked away and never got out,” Wilde said.

“Prior to that he’s had a couple of bad rides here and there, bad track conditions – there’s been a lot going against him.”

Constance Force has been given 59.5kg in the CFV Ambassador’s Plate (2000m) on Saturday but with the claim for apprentice jockey Josh Cartwright, he will carry 56.5kg.

Wilde, who is hoping for a dry track, doesn’t think barrier 10 will present any problems for the son of 1994 Melbourne Cup winner Jeune.

“As he’s gotten older he’s become a bit more tractable, more easy to ride,” he said.

“We used to have to go to the front with him but these days he can track from behind so I don’t think barrier 10 will worry him at all.”

The Wildes’ other runner on Saturday, Hinchley Wood, won the sprint race on Bendigo Cup Day on October 30.

At his most recent start, Hinchley Wood ran third in the Donald Cup on November 17.
