Australian trainer Lee Freedman is off the mark in Singapore, celebrating a winner at the second meeting of his new venture.

Freedman had four runners at Kranji on Friday night without success but on Sunday Mr Clint got him on the board in a 1200m-maiden for one of his predecessor Laurie Laxon’s major owners, Phua Chian Kin of Oscar Racing Stable.

“It’s nice to get away to a memorable start here and for a horse owned by CK, who has been a great supporter of Laurie’s for many years,” Freedman told the Singapore Turf Club.

“I’ve actually known CK for a long time during my past visits here. He is a real gentleman and it’s nice to reward him with a winner.”

Freedman trained Mummify to win the 2005 Group One Singapore Airlines International Cup and his younger brother Michael spent eight successful years in Singapore from 2008 to 2016, saddling 456 winners.

“I’m a bit behind Michael, but I’ll catch up,” Freedman said.

An Australian Hall of Fame trainer and five-time Melbourne Cup winner, Freedman was granted a Singapore licence from September 1 and took over many of Laxon’s horses with the latter returning to New Zealand.
