Race One: Australian Turf Club Maiden Handicap 1250m Form Guide
Back Me: Putting Pera Pera (Best Odds: $1.65) on top. Made his debut in a no metro win race at Randwick on New Years Day and ran well, finishing third to two above average gallopers in Atmospherical and Pirandello. Don’t think there are any stars here, and on that run, he should be too good here.
Big Danger: Diretto (Best Odds: $8.50) is a $220,000 NZ Premier Yearling purchase on debut for Chris Waller off the back of a smart trial win last week at Rosehill, sitting on the pace before pulling clear late under riding. Draws beautifully and is well bred.
Roughie: Eager (Best Odds: $6.50) has put together two seconds from as many career outings. Looked a bit unlucky at Gosford when second to Incubus given that horse crowded him and didn’t give him much room in the straight. Drawn wide here, but does have gate speed and is drawn outside Coolring, who should give the drag over towards the rail. Definite chance.

Race Two: Tab iPad App Maiden Handicap 1250m Form Guide
Back Me: Vanilla Princess (Best Odds: $2.70), much like Pera Pera, bumped into a pretty smart one on debut at Gosford, finishing second to Shamalia, who has won again in town since. Drawn much better now, should lead and take a power of beating.
Big Danger: All Salsa (Best Odds: $9.00) finished third in that race won by Shamalia, and looked to be in control of the race 300m out, but just didn’t quite finish the race off, so 1250m and the wide barrier is a slight concern, but I’ll be banking on the fact she should get over comfortably and that Macca doesn’t push the button too early.
Roughie: The horse to watch from the trials is All Cerise (Best Odds: $9.00) for Chris Waller. He hasn’t been seen since running third stablemate Define at Warwick Farm. That horse resumed the other day at Kensington and was a real eye catcher, so the form looks very good, and the two trials to prepare for this have been faultless.

Race Three: Congrats @ Vinery Handicap (70) 1900m Form Guide
Back Me: Fortunefivehundred (Best Odds: $4.40) looks just about ready to win. Trialled well prior to his solid first up run behind subsequent stakes winner Emblems, then tried very hard when second to Black Jag over the 1550m here last start. Up to an ideal distance now, drops significantly in depth, drawn well…hard to beat.
Big Danger: Immense (Best Odds: $6.00) tried his guts out at Gosford over the 2100m last time out, but couldn’t hold off Roaming Around, who had the softer run and the pull in the weights. That tough run will hold him in good stead here. He’ll roll forward and give a great sight.
Roughie: Rapa Nui (Best Odds: $26.00) had been bursting to win his maiden, and his consistency was rewarded at Gosford with a dominant win over 2100m, admittedly not against much, but the way he did and the way he ran through the line was impressive. Coming back in distance is a concern, but if the pace is on, he’ll hit the line as well as anything.

Race Four: Tab Rewards Handicap 1550m Form Guide
Back Me: Looks a lovely race for Fantastic Ballad (Best Odds: $3.20). He was good over the 1100m here first up behind Turf Hero, then was unlucky when second at Warwick Farm before not being suited by the slow pace at Randwick when fifth to Target In Sight, who ran well on Magic Millions Day at the Gold Coast. Drawn the paint here, Bowman on board…ticks the boxes.
Big Danger: Hypernicus (Best Odds: $6.00) might not be trained by one of the big guns, but this horse certainly has plenty of ability, good enough to win some races in town. He was excellent from the back when second to Street Savvy at Randwick. The smaller track of Canterbury might be against him, but he looks very promising.
Roughie: War Horse (Best Odds: $12.00) produced an eye catching third first up for Chris Waller at Kembla Grange. He worked to the line nicely without being a winning chance. Rises in distance, fitter…could surprise, as could Elusive Diva, who was fourth in that race Street Savvy saluted in.

Race Five: 2014 ATC Membership On Sale Handicap (70) 1100m Form Guide
Back Me: Quite keen on the Hawkes runner Telephoto (Best Odds: $6.50), who was an impressive maiden winner at Gosford, aided by a peach ride from Bowman. Has since gone to the trials, and couldn’t have trialled any better when finishing second under a good hold. Strikes a winnable race and both stable and rider are in form.
Big Danger: Tinszelda (Best Odds: $4.60) raced a touch flat first up at Gosford after trialling quite well. In saying that, it was her first run in 18 months, so maybe prepared to forgive and forget. The query is the second up syndrome, but on her two year old form, she’d beat these.
Roughie: Rolston was a surprise winner at Rosehill two back, then never really got into the race last time out behind Turbulent Jet. Massive drop in depth here, and could easily bounce back.

Race Six: Instagram @Atcraces Handicap (75) 1250m Form Guide
Back Me: The good thing on the card for me in More Than Brave (Best Odds: $4.00). Finished third behind Pillow Talk at Canterbury first up and she was very game, sitting three wide on the pace. She then went to Randwick on New Years Day and was given a peach steer by Nathan Berry to get the job done impressively. Should get the gun run again from the barrier here and McDonald takes over.
Big Danger: Masterstroke (Best Odds: $9.00) was gallant in defeat on New Years Day when third to Shelford. He sat wide with no cover and stuck on quite solidly. Has raced well against some good horses in the past, and he draws much better here, so he can definitely fill a place.
Roughie: Pro Consul (Best Odds: $8.50) has been good in two runs back from a break. Sat wide with no cover and stuck on at Scone behind Dream Choice, then raced keenly when second to Shelford, beating home Masterstroke. He has drawn the paint and should get every chance.

Race Seven: Canterbury Park Handicap (70) 1200m Form Guide
Back Me: This will be a messy race, I have no doubt about that. I’m sticking solid with Xatel Ekwa (Best Odds: $26.00). His three runs back from a break have indicated he is flying. Wound up very nicely behind Holy Delusions, who went on to win another two races in town, then had absolutely no luck behind Pillow Talk in a blanket finish before finishing fourth to More Than Brave after settling last. Given his racing pattern, he’ll receive more bad luck than good luck, but if he gets some of the latter, he can swoop and beat these.
Big Danger: Roll The Bones (Best Odds: $7.00) was luckless at his first two runs back from a break, then got some luck and ran a much improved race, finishing second to More Than Brave. He has drawn terribly here, so he’ll need to be ridden for luck, like Xatel Ekwa, but the pace will be a cracker here, so he should get his chance to run on.
Roughie: The interesting runner is Rossarita (Best Odds: $15.00) for Greg Bennett. Didn’t handle the slow track first up, but then on firmer surfaces, she has bolted in, both times over the 1300m at Scone. She is on the minimum, and if she gets a start, she can certainly run a cheeky race.
