Sandown Guineas 2021: Busuttin and Young with a strong hand in field

Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have a light muster of three horses heading to Caulfield, but it will be all hands-on deck for the stable.

Blushing Tycoon, Mister Me and Reigateall run in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas on Saturday and Busuttin said this was not meant to be the case, but had come around by circumstance.

He said Blushing Tycoon’s program was rearranged after the three-year-old missed out on a start at Cranbourne a fortnight earlier because of a heavy track.

Blushing Tycoon enters Saturday’s race having finished second to Spirit Of Gaylard in the Listed Connoisseur Stakes (1800m) at Flemington on November 2.

“He’s raced himself into form in that 1800-metre race at Flemington during Cup week,” Busuttin said.

“He was then supposed to go into that 2000-metre at Cranbourne, but we scratched him because of the wet track, so we’ve dropped him back to a mile.

“He’s drawn a bad barrier, however he’s done very well, and we can’t fault him.”

While the stable scratched Blushing Tycoon from the Cranbourne engagement, Mister Me took his place that day over 1500m, finishing a five-length second to Lyrical Lad.

Busuutin said Mister Me had done nothing wrong and was racing consistently.

“We thought it might have been a softer edition than what it is as it had been for the last two or three years, but full credit to the Club for getting the field they have,” Busuttin said.

The stable’s third runner is Reigate, a debut winner over 1400m at Pakenham on November 11.

Busuttin said they were willing to take their chance with Reigate on Saturday, hoping the experience will prove beneficial for the autumn.

“He’s still very raw as he showed at Pakenham when he did a hell of a lot wrong,” Busuttin said.

“He’s going to be a proper horse in the autumn. It’ll be a bit hard for him at the moment, but the experience will do him good.”
