News:

A Listed sprint for three-year-olds has been salvaged from the Eagle Farm wash-out and added to the final day of the Brisbane winter carnival.

The Daybreak Lover (1400m) was one of the casualties of Saturday’s abandoned meeting but will now be run on Tattersall’s Tiara day, June 25.

The Listed Spear Chief Stakes had already been transferred to that day which now has a 10-race program.

The Group One Queensland Oaks and Group Two QTC Cup have been added to Saturday’s Stradbroke Handicap meeting while the Listed Lightning will be run at Doomben on Wednesday.

The Group Two Eagle Farm Cup and Listed Phoenix Stakes are the two races that have been lost.

Racing Queensland operations manager Ross Gove said that, after a full review of the racing program, he had identified a need for the Daybreak Lover to be rescheduled.

“We feel there is merit in rescheduling the Daybreak Lover to the Tattersall’s Club Tiara raceday as there is only one other black type race for three-year-olds over a similar distance throughout the Queensland winter racing carnival,” Gove said.

“The race will now be held two weeks after Saturday’s Group Two Queensland Guineas (1600m) and will no doubt be used by some as a final lead-up to the Group Three Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) on July 2.

“It could also present an alternative for those horses that fail to run out the distance of the Queensland Guineas and don’t intend to press on to the Sunshine Coast Guineas.”
