Champion jockey Nash Rawiller believes Brazen Beau can continue trainer Chris Waller’s domination of feature winter carnival juvenile races.

Waller wasted little time in opening his account in the black-type races at this year’s carnival when Brazen Beau ($6.50) scored an impressive win in the Group Two Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Rawiller believes Brazen Beau will be even better suited in longer races.

“He reminds me a lot of Pressday who won the Sires’ and JJ Atkins up here and I reckon those races are ideal for this bloke,” Rawiller said.

“Down the back straight he switched off beautifully and when I asked him for an effort in the straight he gave me a really good kick.”

Rawiller said there is still plenty of improvement in Brazen Beau.

“He came here in good shape after a trial in Sydney and he’s only going to get better with that run under his belt and when he steps up a bit more in distance,” he said.

Grant Morgan, who manages a syndicate of 25 owners who race Brazen Beau, said the colt would follow the traditional path for two-year-olds during the carnival.

“Chris has had a lot of success with two-year-olds like Pressday and Zoustar up here so we won’t be trying to reinvent the wheel,” Morgan said.

“The Sires’ will be his next run and he’s also entered for the JJ Atkins if we press on a bit further in the carnival.”

Brazen Beau was bought for $70,000 at the Inglis Classic sale.

“His dam was a very good filly who ran third to Exceed And Excel in the Black Opal and I did a fair bit of homework on him leading into that sale,” Morgan said.

“After his last run on a wet track I spoke to Chris five minutes after the race and we both agreed to aim him at the winter carnival.”
