The inexplicable has been followed by the conventional for Boban as the Group One star used a barrier trial to restore order to his spring campaign.

Back in Sydney after disappointing in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington, Boban came from midfield to put his rivals away with a minimum of fuss in Friday’s 1200-metre heat at Warwick Farm.

His 1-1/4 length win over Time To Test and stablemate Masthead helped ease any concerns trainer Chris Waller or jockey Glyn Schofield might have had about Boban’s immediate future.

It marked the first time in six attempts under Waller’s watch that Boban has won a barrier trial.

And it couldn’t have been more convincing or timely with the Epsom Handicap a week away.

“I don’t get to ride him much outside of race days but he felt good,” Schofield said.

“He felt the same as he did travelling into the race at Flemington.

“For whatever reason he didn’t do anything in the Makybe Diva but today he had the bit in his teeth and wanted to go on with it.

“On that he seems to be back in good form.”

Boban has lost Epsom favouritism to stablemate Royal Descent and last year’s winner shares the second line of betting with another Waller runner, He’s Your Man.

Schofield named Celtic Prince as possibly the best of his four Rosehill rides on Saturday.

Celtic Prince steps up to 2400m for the first this campaign and Schofield says he is a stayer to be reckoned with when he finds form.

“He hasn’t been in the right race yet and his second to Who Shot Thebarman in the Auckland Cup makes him hard to beat,” he said.

Celtic Prince is a $7 chance in the Colin Stephen Quality – a lead-up race to next week’s Group One Metropolitan.
