Connections of Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes contender Field Of Play have officially paid the late entry fee, ensuring the gelding’s place in Saturday’s feature race after an impressive workout at Cranbourne.
Despite not being initially nominated, the unbeaten runner had until Monday morning to be entered via a $55,000 late fee. Co-trainer Trent Busuttin confirmed on Sunday that the decision was finalized.
“We paid up for him after he galloped on Saturday,” Busuttin said. “We’re very happy with him and he’s a horse that’s got no issues.
“He’s a very straight-forward horse. He eats, sleeps and he bounced through the race well and the same with the gallop, so we made the payment.
“Hopefully we get through the week, and he’ll go in with every chance.”
The Deep Field gelding, who was initially purchased as a weanling for $255,000 before later selling for $500,000 as a yearling, will have Blake Shinn in the saddle.
Online betting sites have Field Of Play listed as a $7 co-favourite alongside Palm Angel, with Our Gladiola close behind at $7.50.
