News:

Some of the stars of Darren Weir’s high flying stable are set to step out this week to begin their campaigns aimed at Group One glory.

Black Heart Bart, Palentino and Flamberge are already Group One winners and the three are set to resume in Friday night’s Group Two Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

Australian Cup hopefuls Real Love and Humidor will return in the Listed John Dillon Stakes at Caulfield a day earlier.

After the Australia Stakes, Black Heart Bart and Palentino will head to the Group One CF Orr Stakes and Futurity Stakes, both over 1400m at Caulfield next month.

“They’re great. They both trialled on Tuesday at Camperdown and went terrific,” Weir said.

“Black Heart Bart and Palentino will go to the Orr and the Futurity and then we’ll work it out from there.”

The Sydney carnival is also on the radar for the pair after their Melbourne assignments.

“Lucky Hussler will also run in the Orr and the Futurity,” Weir said.

Ex-New Zealander Humidor will make his debut for the Weir team in Thursday’s John Dillon (1400m).

Formerly trained by Johno Benner and Hollie Wynyard, Humidor has won four of his 10 starts including last year’s Group Three Manawatu Classic and was narrowly beaten in the Group One Ormond Memorial (2040m) in New Zealand last spring.

He finished ninth in the Group One Cantala Stakes at Flemington before being transferred to Weir.

“He’s a new horse to us. He’s just a good galloper,” Weir said.

“He and Real Love are on an Australian Cup path, and Tosen Stardom will join in a fortnight later in the Carlyon Cup at Caulfield.”

The Carlyon Cup (1600m) is on February 11 while the Australian Cup (2000m) is at Flemington on March 11.

Weir trained four winners at Moonee Valley on Saturday to take his tally in Melbourne for the season to 75, 22 ahead of the training partnership of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig.
