Greg Eurell’s long-held opinion of the progeny of broodmare Redasun was further reinforced when Rubi’s Choice claimed the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) for fillies at Caulfield.
Five of Redasun’s offspring have now raced, with three passing through Eurell’s stable and all of them winning, including this latest success.
Rubi’s Choice ($26) scored by three-quarters of a length over Te Akau Racing’s I Am Aria ($18), with Gin Twist ($16) a short half-head away in third.
Despite the impressive win, Rubi’s Choice — like fellow Preview winner Albibab — is not currently nominated for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 21.
Connections have until Tuesday to decide whether to pay the $55,000 late entry fee.
“We had another two-year-old, Lincoln Square, who was a brother to this filly so it was the right decision to go back to Redasun again,” Eurell said.
“It is always tough to get a guide on these two-year-olds but what I liked with her is that she is so progressive and every time she has gone out she has been learning and progressed with it.
“She could not have led into this any better than she did and today I felt that she was super well so we thought we’d get a good guide on where she sits.”
Rubi’s Choice stopped the clock at 58.38 seconds, 0.32 seconds quicker than the colts division run earlier on the program.
“We’ll see how she pulls up but we’ll likely go to the Blue Diamond Prelude and go from there,” Eurell said.
The Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for fillies will be run at Caulfield on February 7.
Rubi’s Choice is rated a $15 chance in early markets for the Blue Diamond Stakes.
