Australian sports fans have become accustomed to superstar sprinter Black Caviar setting records. Tomorrow, her little half-brother is expected to uphold family tradition by becoming the highest priced yearling ever sold in Australia.
According to punters at Sportingbet Australia, the unnamed colt currently known as Lot 131, will sell for between $3.01 million and $3.5 million when he goes under the hammer at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sales on Tuesday afternoon.
“Punters have heavily backed that option from $3.80 into $3.30 favourite,” said Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan.
“The smart money suggests the colt will surpass the previous $3 million dollar record but not exceed a sale price of $3.5 million as widely tipped,” Sullivan said.
The $3 million record was set in 2006 and again in 2007 with a Redoute’s Choice colt and a Rock Of Gilbraltar colt respectively.
The option of Lot 131 selling for between $3.51m and $4m has remained steady at $3.40, while the options for a sale price in excess of $4.01m have drifted along with the option for a sale price of below $3m.
“We’ve taken twice as many bets on the sale price being between $3m and $3.5m than any other option,” Sullivan said.
