It probably doesn’t count as family support, but Black Caviar will have a couple of relatives on track at Randwick on Saturday.

The great mare will have one of her cousins and an aunty competing in separate races on the Derby day card.

Scandiva, a daughter of Black Caviar’s granddam Scandinavia, will be attempting to claim the scalp of Golden Slipper winner Overreach in the Group One Sires’ Produce Stakes (1200m).

Fellow two-year-old Iconic, by Black Caviar’s sire Bel Esprit out of a half-sister to her dam Helsinge, will tackle the Group Three Kindergarten Stakes (1100m).

Iconic has won two of his three starts and while Saturday’s test will be his toughest yet, trainer Tony McEvoy is optimistic the youngster will prove up to the challenge.

“He is from Black Caviar’s family so it’s very exciting,” McEvoy said.

“He is a nice horse. This is his biggest test, he is going to Group Three company but I’ve got faith in him.”

The trio’s appearance at Randwick follows a week in which two more of their family grabbed headlines at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

A three-quarter brother to Scandiva also smashed through the six-figure barrier when he sold for $1.2 million.
